Optima Batteries 8040-218 D35 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery
About Optima Batteries:
When it comes to price, durability, and performance, it is quite difficult for any AGM battery to compete with the Optima line. Despite the optima red top performing extremely well, we sometimes forget another major player in the game, the yellow top optima battery. The D35 Optima battery includes all the bells and jingles of the patented spiral cell design which allows for clean long lasting power, vibration resistance, and safety for your family. This yellow top battery is perfect for conventional vehicles which you may not be using at all times due to the low self-discharge rate. If you are a forgetful person and seem always to keep your car headlights on or leave the radio running, the Optima Yellow top D35 will not fail to you and start up your car like it has turned off completely. Our recommendation for anyone with an OEM battery is to replace it immediately with a D35 battery. Why is that? From the get go your going to be saving time and money maintenance. Despite using a power hungry car or leaving lights on, or doing other activities that may drain battery power the optima yellow top can jump into action within Milliseconds. Despite the CCA being on the lower end which is 450 CCA the battery still performs exceptionally well in harsh weathers. If you live in an extremely hot or cold climate, you will be blasting the AC system, this is power intensive and will take away performance from the rest of the car. However, with the Optima Yellow top D35, this will no longer be an issue.

B. Clark (Certified Buyer of Product) RATING: 5/5
After doing a lot of research on AGM batteries, I finally decided on this one. This was a Birthday gift for my son, to be installed in his ’03 Subaru Forester.
I started out looking at the Optima Red Top, but the reviews were not as good & people I know have had problems with their Red Top battery failing. Now the choice was between the Sears DieHard Platinum & the Optima Yellow Top.
The Sears DieHard Platinum looks like a very good battery & it’s said to be made by Odyssey. Not really sure that’s true? What pushed me over to the Optima Yellow Top was the heavier weight, much higher cost & shipping hassles if I went with the Sears DieHard Platinum.
The Optima Yellow Top was delivered quickly by UPS. It comes in a heavy-duty, double walled cardboard box. The battery inside the box was protected with more cardboard packing & the top of the battery was covered with a protective plastic cover. With the attached removable lift handle, the battery was easy to remove from the shipping box. The battery was in perfect condition!
We found the Optima Yellow Top sits lower than a standard type 35 battery. Not a problem, since a spacer is provided, which snaps onto the bottom of the battery. This made the battery fit perfectly in my son’s ’03 Subaru Forester. The battery comes fully charged, so once we hooked up the cables, the engine started right up!
We would recommend this battery & the plan is to install one of these in our other two vehicles.
► Update – October 23, 2012
Since I wrote this review, I bought another Optima Yellow top for our ’95 Neon Sport. I should note that this isn’t a direct replacement for the stock battery in the stock location! We relocated the battery to the trunk & a sealed battery (less chance of passing) was the way to go. We completed this project over the summer & it was a complete success!
As to the previous battery installed in my son’s ’03 Subaru Forester. It’s been 100% trouble free! 🙂
